Laura is an illustrator, painter, HCPC registered Art Therapist and more recently Laura has been dipping her toes into the world of poetry.
Lauras illustration work has taken on many forms as she responds to briefs from clients, or her own thought process to the exploration of animalising mental health through monochromatic work.
Since Laura was knee high to a grasshopper she has drawn, created and drawn joy and escapism in it.
Studying fine art at university led Laura to explore the world of Graffiti and the hidden language being silently shouted off the walls. Silence has been a reoccurring theme throughout her practice as a painter, art psychotherapist and illustrator. Laura has worked with many people who have lost their voice through trauma and their only y form of expression was through art or writing, a salient way of communicating their needs. This work led into an exploration of silent children books whilst studying a masters in illustration.
Laura is fascinated how images can convey so much where words are just not avaliable. How a image can carry meaning for one persons and a complete opposite experience for another.
In 2025 Laura returned to painting after nearly 20 years away from picking up a paintbrush. As Laura has reacquainted herself with painting as a form of expression the them of silence resonates throughout. Paintings are carpeted from a poem, a poem that is often raw and emotive. The paintings may contain some words but mostly they are exploring space between forms, what is being said in those spaces, what the viewer can choose to feel for themselves.
Laura has always wanted to please with her work, but coming back later into her painting Laura appreciates that painting is subjective and that although her paintings may not appear to all audiences, it is an expression of self and a exploration of what needs to be said, silently hanging on a gallery wall.
Laura’s studio is set in the East Lothian, where she spends her days creating work. When not in her studio you will find her wandering in the woods, or walking along the beach with her Spanish hound dog Sil.
